There have been complaints regarding delay from Tangedco or Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation in providing new electricity connections.
The news that has come out now is Tangedco has given clear instructions to the field officers to strictly adhere to the schedule and meet the standards specified under the DSOP or Distribution Standards of Performance regulations amid the complaints of delays with respect to new service connections.
It must be recalled that TNERC or Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission has made amendments to the DSOP regulations and they notified the amendments on 21st February 2024.
Every distribution licensee must provide electricity supply to premises within one week or 7 days of receiving the application and this was according to the amended DSOP Regulation (4) (4).
In the schedule it has been specified that for the supply of electricity without extension or improvement work for LT the electricity supply should be given within 3 days but not exceeding 7 days. As per the Tangedco`s director for distribution it was clear that the chief engineers of the distribution region must ensure that the officers follow the time schedule and meet the specific standards of various service areas without fail.
It is learnt that Mr. Kathirmathiyan, secretary of Coimbatore Consumer Cause has complained to the chairman of TNREC regarding the delay in providing new service connections due to unavailability of single phase meters. He added that Tangedco has failed to pay automatic compensation for the new electricity connection delays that were more than 7 days.
