Chennai Metro Phase II Launch Soon: Poonamallee to Vadapalani Driverless Trains Expected
Commercial operations of Chennai Metro Rail Phase II between Poonamallee Bypass and Vadapalani are expected to begin soon. Officials from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) are likely to meet the Chief Minister’s Office regarding the inauguration of the new Metro stretch.
The 15.8-km driverless Metro corridor is part of Corridor 4 connecting Poonamallee to Light House. The route includes important stations such as Poonamallee, Kattupakkam, Iyyappanthangal, Porur Junction and Vadapalani.
Initially planned till Porur Junction, the service has now been extended to Vadapalani to provide better connectivity with the existing Metro network through the Skywalk foot-over-bridge.
The launch of Chennai Metro Phase II is expected to reduce travel time and improve public transport access for commuters from western parts of Chennai.
