Metro Water Completes Repair Works on West Jones Road in Saidapet; Road Restoration to Finish Before July 20

Chennai Metro Water has clarified that the repair works on West Jones Road in Saidapet, which caused temporary traffic congestion, have been successfully completed. The civic utility added that road restoration work is underway and will be completed before July 20.

The clarification was issued in response to a report highlighting traffic disruptions caused by the Metro Water excavation works in the area.

According to Metro Water, the excavation was initiated after a road cave-in was reported on West Jones Road. Repair works commenced on July 2, and during the excavation, officials discovered that a five-metre-deep manhole had collapsed and a 250-mm diameter gravity sewer main had become dislodged.

The damaged sewer line carries wastewater from parts of West Saidapet to the Sarathy Nagar Sewage Pumping Station, making immediate repairs essential to prevent disruptions in the underground sewer network.

As part of the restoration work, the damaged brick manhole was dismantled and reconstructed as a reinforced cement concrete (RCC) manhole, while the displaced sewer pipeline was relaid to restore normal sewage flow.

Metro Water stated that all major repair works were completed on July 16. Road restoration has now been taken up on a priority basis and is expected to be completed before July 20.

The utility reiterated that the repairs were necessary to restore the damaged underground sewer infrastructure and ensure the uninterrupted flow of sewage from the affected areas.
