Chennai Girl Nisha Sasikumar Scales Mount Everest at 16, Creates History for India

16 year old Nisha Sasikumar has achieved the remarkable feat of climbing Mount Everest, becoming one of the youngest girls to reach the world`s highest peak.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai on Sunday, Nisha and her father, Sasikumar, said they had begun a journey with the goal of climbing the highest peaks across all seven continents.

Nisha successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 25. While a 16 year old girl from Nepal had previously completed the climb in 187 days, Nisha achieved the feat in just 80 days. She has also earned the distinction of being the first Indian to do so.

Nisha said she hopes her achievement will inspire girls across the country to believe that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to.

So far, she and her father have climbed several major peaks, including Kilimanjaro in Africa, Elbrus in Russia, Kosciuszko in Australia, Carstensz Pyramid in Indonesia, and Aconcagua in Argentina.

Their next challenge is Denali in Alaska, North America. According to them, it is expected to be the toughest mountain they have attempted so far, and they are already undergoing training for it.

To prepare for Everest, Nisha trained for nearly a year by climbing mountains around Bengaluru and Mysuru. At the same time, she continued her studies, attending school on weekdays and travelling to other states for training during weekends.

They have informed the Tamil Nadu government about their mountaineering achievements, including the Everest expedition. The state government has also congratulated them on their accomplishment.

Nisha and her father plan to complete their mission of climbing the highest peaks on all seven continents by November. They hope the achievement will earn Nisha recognition as one of the youngest girls in the world to conquer all seven summits.
