Redevelopment works at Chengalpattu Railway Station, taken up under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at a cost of ₹22.14 crore, are expected to be completed by December 2025, according to Southern Railway.
A senior railway official said that 80% of the project is complete, with major focus on modernising infrastructure and enhancing passenger amenities.
Key Progress Updates
Structural Works: Administrative building, concourse, porch, and ticket counters in final stages.
Façade & Walkways: Over 85% complete.
Platforms: Resurfacing completed on platforms 5 & 6; works progressing on platforms 7 & 8.
Shelters: Roofing fully completed.
Lifts: Two lifts commissioned near platforms 2, 7, and 8. Additional lifts planned for platforms 3–4 and 5–6.
New Facilities at Redeveloped Station
- Expanded parking area.
- Modern G+1 station building with spacious concourse.
- Air-conditioned waiting halls.
- Retiring rooms and a VIP lounge.
Once completed, the upgraded station is expected to provide a modern, passenger-friendly travel experience and improve connectivity in the region.
