Residents in Chennai and several northern districts of Tamil Nadu are likely to experience intense summer heat once again from May 17 or 18, with temperatures expected to rise sharply over the following days.

According to weather enthusiast Tamil Nadu Weatherman, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu (KTCC region), along with districts such as Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, and Villupuram, could witness one of the hottest phases of this summer between May 17 and May 27.

Over the past few days, Chennai has been recording temperatures around 35°C to 36°C. However, weather models indicate that daytime temperatures may climb to 41°C or even 42°C next week, especially in areas close to the Andhra Pradesh border.

The rising heat is expected to increase discomfort levels across the city and nearby districts, with hot and humid weather likely during both daytime and nighttime hours.

Meanwhile, some interior parts of Tamil Nadu may receive scattered rainfall from May 18 onwards, offering partial relief from the heat in selected regions.

In another important update, the southwest monsoon is expected to reach Kerala during the last week of May. Initial indications suggest favourable rainfall activity during the first ten days of June. However, forecasts currently hint at below-normal rainfall for the remaining weeks of June.

Weather experts are continuing to monitor monsoon developments closely, as rainfall patterns over the next few weeks will play a crucial role in Tamil Nadu’s summer and water conditions.
