Chennai Corporation Urges Property Owners to Pay Tax by July 31 to Avoid Penalty Interest

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has urged property owners to clear their pending property tax dues by July 31, warning that penalty interest will be levied on payments made after the deadline.

According to the civic body, property tax is one of its primary sources of revenue, and a special tax collection drive has been underway since July 3. As of July 29, the Corporation had collected ₹157.39 crore through property tax.

The Corporation also said it has identified commercial establishments with significant tax arrears in zones including Royapuram and Kodambakkam. Several such establishments were temporarily sealed as part of enforcement measures and were allowed to reopen only after clearing their outstanding property tax dues.

The civic body has appealed to all property owners, including residential and commercial taxpayers, to pay their pending property tax on or before July 31 to avoid the imposition of penalty interest.
