BC, MBC and Minority Students Can Apply for Government Hostels in Chennai; July 15 Last Date

The Chennai District Collectorate has announced that Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), and Minority students can apply for admission to Tamil Nadu Government hostels for the current academic year. A total of 18 government hostels, including 12 hostels for boys and 6 hostels for girls, are functioning in Chennai district.

Students pursuing Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), ITI, and Polytechnic courses are eligible to apply. To qualify, the annual income of the student`s parents or guardian should not exceed Rs. 2 lakh. For male students, the distance between their residence and educational institution must be more than 8 kilometres. This distance criterion does not apply to female students.

Application forms can be obtained free of cost from the respective hostel wardens or the District Backward Classes Welfare Office located in the Chennai Collectorate. Completed applications must be submitted on or before July 15.

Students are not required to submit caste or income certificates at the time of application. These documents need to be produced only during admission. Additionally, five seats have been reserved in each hostel for the children of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees living in camps.

Eligible students are encouraged to make use of this government welfare scheme and apply before the deadline.
