Posted on: 08/Jul/2019 9:57:54 AM
Under the Smart City Mission, as many as 6 projects have been taken up. The news that has come out now is these projects would be completed in this month of July. It is now said that the groundwater would be improved plus clean energy would be promoted by the completion of these projects. This has been confirmed by some officials now.

Point is the these projects includes restoration of 35 water bodies, 15 temple tanks, pedestrianized streets,  solar rooftop panels and street parking. At an estimated amount of Rs 5.85 crores, work on the restoration of 85 percent of the 32 water bodies has been completed. In the year 2018, GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation began the restoration process utilizing smart city funds. This work would be over by the end of this month of July. This was as per the officials.

Restoration of the temple tanks in as many as in 15 locations has been going on is known. Information collected is 90 percent of this work has been completed. The civic officials have mentioned that the work in Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal and Peryazhvar temple in Saidapet was delayed due to traffic police restrictions. In the month of April, the clearance order was got from the executive official and the work order was issued last year.  It must be noted that the work in the other temples in Chennai included Gangadeeswarar temple in Purasalwalkam and Virupacheeswarar temple in Mylapore.

The official spoke about how the restoration would play an important role in the improvement of ground water recharge in the places like Ayanavaram, George Town, Mylapore, Purasawalkkam, Kaladipet and Saidapet. In the 662 buildings belonging to the corporation of Chennai, solar panels have been installed on the rooftops in 87% of 662 buildings. An amount of Rs 24 crores has been spent on this. Information is the work would be over by this month end.

Important information is the corporation implemented this because by this it could own the assets. As the renewable energy service companies rejected the public- private partnership or PPP, the project was delayed.  By this, small solar power capacity of the corporation buildings was pointed out. It is superb to mention here that few buildings like Ripon buildings, Communicable Diseases Hospital have got higher solar capacity. It should be taken into account that most of the buildings have got solar power capacity of 1to 12 KW.

In each of the zones belonging to Thiruvottiyur, Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam and Alandur, solar roof top panels have been commissioned in more than 100 buildings. At an amount of Rs 19 crores, the work on the 90 percent of the pedestrianized roads present in as many as 23 locations have been completed.
