Don`t be surprised if you come across Nagavalli temple at Avadi, Choolai based Chidambareswara temple and Vyasarpadi based Ravishwarar temple etc getting lifted.
According to HR & CE department sources, atleast 20 temples that are present below the street levels would be lifted. The shocking piece of information is that in the last monsoon even the sanctum sanctorum of these temples got flooded. This has necessitated this work of lifting temples below the street level. To do this lifting exercise, the state level Heritage Screening Committee has granted clearance.
According to Mr. Sekar Babu, Minister, it was the duty of HR & CE dept to ensure that regular pujas were performed without any disturbance. He threw light on the Adyar based Karpaga Vinayagar temple that was lifted by cutting the walls at ground level and constructing an elevation using bricks.
It was later revealed by a structural engineer associated with this project that Nagavalli temple in Avadi, Chidambareswara temple in Choolai, Raveeswarar temple in Vyasarpadi, Anjaneyar temple in Senji and Sivan temple in Mayavaram would be lifted. He spoke about how the cost of equipment per square foot and labour is Rs 250 to RS 300.
