The Chennai Meteorological Department has forecast that rainfall will begin across Tamil Nadu from today, bringing relief from the intense summer heat. Several parts of the state are expected to receive light to moderate showers, with chances of thunderstorms in isolated areas.

Weather officials stated that moist winds from the southeast, combined with atmospheric pressure changes over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea, are creating favorable conditions for rainfall. Due to this, cloud formation has increased across coastal and southern districts.

In the past 24 hours, light rain was recorded in districts like Kanyakumari and Tenkasi, while scattered showers were also reported in Ramanathapuram and Thoothukudi. More regions are expected to receive rainfall starting today.

Tamil Nadu has been experiencing extreme heat conditions, with temperatures rising above normal levels in many areas. Tiruchirappalli recorded 105°F, while Vellore and Erode touched 104°F. Cities like Madurai, Karur, and Tirupattur recorded around 102°F, making it one of the hottest periods in recent weeks.

However, with the onset of rainfall, temperatures are expected to gradually decrease across the state, offering relief to residents.

A trough in the lower atmosphere extending from North Telangana to the southern tip of India, passing through Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, is the main reason behind this weather change. This system is expected to sustain rainfall activity over the next few days.

From April 30 to May 2, heavy rain is likely in western districts, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri. Following this, moderate rainfall is expected on May 3 and May 4.

Overall, the weather department indicates that rainfall will continue in phases, gradually reducing heat levels and improving climatic conditions across Tamil Nadu.
