The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a weather alert predicting heavy rainfall in several parts of Tamil Nadu on June 30 and July 1. The rainfall is expected due to atmospheric conditions extending from the north coastal Tamil Nadu region to the Kanyakumari sea area.

According to the weather department, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal over the next two days.

On June 30 (Tuesday), heavy rain is expected at isolated places in the Nilgiris district and the hilly regions of Coimbatore district, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

On July 1 (Wednesday), similar weather conditions are likely in the hilly areas of Coimbatore and Tiruppur, as well as in the districts of Nilgiris, Dindigul, Theni, Erode, and Salem, where heavy rain may occur at isolated locations.

The weather department also reported that Cuddalore recorded the highest maximum temperature of 102.2°F, followed by Vellore (102.02°F), Puducherry (100.76°F), Tiruttani (100.58°F), Chennai Meenambakkam and Nagapattinam (100.4°F), Chennai Nungambakkam (100.22°F), and Parangipettai (100.04°F).

Fishermen Advisory

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along the South Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, and Kanyakumari sea region, as strong winds with speeds of up to 60 km/h are expected over these areas. Authorities have urged coastal communities and fishermen to follow official weather advisories for their safety.
