Southern Railway Diverts Guruvayur - Chennai Express on August 12 Due to Engineering Works

Southern Railway has announced that the Guruvayur–Chennai Egmore Express (Train No. 16128) will operate on a diverted route on August 12, 2026, due to engineering maintenance works being carried out in the Madurai Railway Division.

According to an official statement, the train, scheduled to depart Guruvayur at 11:15 PM on August 12, will not run on its usual route. Instead, it will be diverted via Virudhunagar, Manamadurai, Karaikudi, and Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) before reaching Chennai Egmore.

The temporary diversion has been announced to facilitate essential track maintenance and ensure safe railway operations.

Other Trains Running on Diverted Routes

Southern Railway has also announced route changes for the following services:

Kanyakumari–Howrah Express operating on August 8, 2026 will run via Manamadurai and Karaikudi.

Nagercoil–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express operating on August 9, 13, 20, and 27, 2026 will also be diverted via Manamadurai and Karaikudi instead of its regular route.

Passengers travelling on these trains are advised to check the latest train schedules and route information before commencing their journey to avoid inconvenience.

Southern Railway has requested passengers to cooperate during the maintenance period, stating that the engineering works are essential for improving railway infrastructure and ensuring safer train operations.
