Egg Price Drops by 30 Paise in Namakkal, Farm-Gate Price Fixed at ₹6

The farm gate price of eggs in the Namakkal region has been reduced by 30 paise, bringing the price down to ₹6 per egg, according to the latest decision announced by the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC).

A few weeks ago, egg prices had witnessed a sharp rise, with farm-gate prices nearing ₹7 per egg. As a result, retail prices in the open market climbed to around ₹8.50 per egg. Poultry farmers attributed the earlier increase to rising input costs, including higher feed prices, labour charges, and other production expenses. During the same period, the prices of broiler and layer chickens also increased, reaching around ₹150 per kg.

However, market conditions have changed in recent weeks. A decline in egg exports due to the ongoing West Asia conflict, increased domestic production, seasonal factors during the Tamil month of Aadi, and higher retail prices have led to lower consumer demand. The slowdown in sales has resulted in egg stocks accumulating at poultry farms, while consumption has also declined in several other states.

In view of the reduced demand, the NECC held a consultative meeting with poultry farmers in Namakkal to review the pricing. Based on the feedback received, the committee decided to lower the farm-gate price by 30 paise, fixing it at ₹6 per egg.

With this latest revision, egg prices have fallen by a total of 80 paise over the past four days, following consecutive reductions of 30 paise, 20 paise, and 30 paise.
