Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay visited two of Chennai`s leading manufacturing facilities Saint-Gobain and Renault Nissan—on Monday, August 3, 2026, to review their operations, manufacturing capabilities, and future expansion plans.

The visit highlights the Tamil Nadu government`s continued focus on strengthening the state`s position as one of India`s leading automobile and manufacturing hubs, while promoting industrial growth, investment, and skill development.

CM Vijay Inspects Saint-Gobain Manufacturing Facility

The Chief Minister began his visit at the Saint-Gobain manufacturing plant, where he toured key production units involved in the manufacture of float glass, coated glass, and laminated glass.

During the visit, he interacted with senior company officials to understand the manufacturing process, production capacity, and the company`s future expansion initiatives in Tamil Nadu.

CM Vijay also reviewed the company`s skill development programmes, including the "Learn While Earn" initiative and the Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF). He interacted with students receiving technical training under these programmes and appreciated the company`s efforts to develop industry-ready talent.

As a mark of the occasion, the Chief Minister planted a tree sapling within the factory premises, reinforcing the government`s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Renault Nissan Plant Visit

Later, CM Vijay visited the Renault Nissan manufacturing plant near Chennai, where he inspected the vehicle production facility and reviewed the company`s manufacturing operations.

During the visit, he also drove the new variant of the Renault Duster on the company`s dedicated long test track, gaining first-hand experience of the vehicle`s performance.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Chief Minister to interact with company officials and understand Renault Nissan`s contribution to Tamil Nadu`s automobile manufacturing ecosystem and its future growth plans.

Senior Officials Present

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Ministers S. Keerthana, K. Thennarasu, and R.V. Ranjithkumar, along with Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar and Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) S. Vijayakumar during the visits.

The visits underline the Tamil Nadu government`s commitment to supporting industrial development, encouraging investments, promoting advanced manufacturing, and strengthening skill development initiatives across the state.
