For the sake of the fourth line from Egmore to Beach, the Southern Railway or SR has demolished the Park Town railway station. This is making sensational news now. On 28th August, the work on the new fourth line began is well known. Now, this work of 4.3km is going on well.

The officers from SR have mentioned that the land acquisitions from MMC and Defence have been completed. This Rs 279 cr work fourth line work would be completed by the month of February 2024. The main objective behind the construction of a fourth line is to convert Egmore -Tambaram into an alternative terminal for the trains from north India.

Few years back, the central station in Chennai that had been handling northbound trains reached saturation. As a result, few weekly trains have been diverted through Perambur and Korukkupet etc. By this, stoppage of trains at Central has been avoided since the year 2019 onwards. From 28th of august onwards, MRTS services have been stopped from Beach ad Chintadripet.

Dismantling of the railway tracks to facilitate the machinery movement has been done by SR for the last few months. It was brought out by a railway official that the railway station at Park Town was demolished and work was completed. The bank of Cooum River was protected with secant piles and that was due to the fact that the major portion of the railway track passes through the Cooum River.

The official then spoke about the completion of the piling work along the Cooum River bank. After the completion of track alignment works, new platforms and buildings would be built at Park Town. It must be taken into account that platforms have been dismantled at Park station and in Fort station. At the Fort station, construction of new platforms has started.
