As the quantum of supply of tomatoes from other states and districts increased considerably, the price of tomatoes, which was roaring at Rs. 100/-+, came down to Rs. 50/- per kg! It is now sold at Rs. 50/- per kg.

Due to the excessive scorching heat in the summer, the yield of tomatoes decreased considerably as explained by a few. And another explanation was that the farmers who grew tomatoes stopped it as they could not get their desired price for the tomatoes!

Tomatoes are grown on a large scale in the Tamil Nadu districts of Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, and Dindigul and transported from there. Generally, 500 tons of tomatoes arrive daily at the Koyambedu wholesale Vegetable, fruits & flowers Supermarket. In recent times, the arrival of tomatoes was far less than 300 tons, so the price increased!
As such, the quantity of arrival of tomatoes increased yesterday (Wednesday), and the price of tomatoes came down in a single day up to Rs. 20/- per kg.

Subsequently, the price of tomatoes came down to Rs. 50/- per kg in Koyambedu wholesale market.

It is expected that the price will go down further in the next few days!
