We always want to stay slim, but it is never possible!!

It is true that we would face humiliation from others when we become fat and obese. We try several ways to become thin but  get depressed when efforts to become thin are not successful.

It is usual that we associate weight gain with low metabolism or intake of unhealthy foods etc but not with stress factor. We could get stressed due to many reasons like health or family issues, financial issues etc.Truth is that when we are stressed we consume more foods to satisfy our food cravings. By this, we could put on weight.

There are different ways by which stress could make us gain weight.

By triggering food cravings:

During stress, many of us eat junk foods and that is due to the fact that stress would release cortisol and this would make us consume more fats and sugars etc. This could increase the b;lood sugar levels, reduce metabolism and result in weight gain.

By reducing the effect of insulin:

It must be noted that insulin takes blood sugars to the cells. The efficacy of insulin would be reduced by chronic stress. By this, there would be more storage in the fat cells. Stress could also increase blood sugars and type 2 diabetes. We would eat more junk foods and this could lead to high blood sugar levels. To avoid any damage to the organs, the body stores away excess sugars in the fat cells resulting in weight increase.

Thyroid function gets suppressed:

The thyroid function would get supressed due to high levels of cortisol in the body. This could make the metabolism and digestion etc to slow down. By this, we could gain weight despite taking the same amount of food.

Progesterone gets suppressed:

It is noteworthy that the progesterone function would get suppressed due to high levels of cortisol in us. This could lead to more symptoms of estrogen and one  example is enhanced fat storage in the body. It is highly essential for us to know about the reason for stress and deal with that for controlling weight gain etc.
