In the future, if you want to carry raw meats and sea foods etc inside the metro trains and in metro stations in Chennai ,then you would not be allowed to travel in the metro trains.

The persons who carry these food items would be stopped by the metro train staff and their baggage would be scanned and people would be frisked at the ticketing counters. These people would be asked to leave the metro stations premises immediately.

It must be recalled that at Wimco Nagar metro station in north Chennai, the CMRL officers recently put up a board mentioning that uncooked meat and seafoods etc are banned under Metro Railways Carriage Ticket Rules 2014. It is worthy to note here that the CMRL officials have categorised these uncooked foods as carcasses of dead animals or dead birds etc and hence these food items are offensive materials.

As per an officer belonging to CMRL, these foods have been prohibited in all the metros. He added that uncooked meat and seafood could lead to an unbearable smell and it could cause inconvenience for many others.

Point is that a notice board banning carrying uncooked foods inside the metro trains has been put up at Wimco Nagar as some passengers tried to enter the metro trains with such foods.  It was later pointed out by a resident from Tondiarpet that carrying uncooked foods would lead to foul smell. He added that the commuters must be allowed to carry the uncooked foods inside metro trains in well packed air-tight containers that would not result in foul smell.  It must be noted that in Bangalore people carrying uncooked foods in well sealed containers have been allowed to travel in the metro trains.

In the same way, the commuters are not allowed to carry liquor bottles inside the metro trains in Chennai as they could catch fire easily. It is worthy to mention here that passengers carrying sealed liquor bottles purchased from the airport duty free shops are allowed to pass through the baggage scanners with the condition that they do not open the bottles during the journey.
