Yesterday, the third council meeting of GCC took place and the meeting was headed by Chennai Mayor R. Priya. Many councillors were concerned about the SWD work and basic infrastructural developments in their respective wards. It must be taken into note that the meeting took place just above for 2 hours. Point is that zero hour was suspended due to an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases. Yesterday, several educational related resolutions were passed by the council.
Formation of youth parliament:
Formation of youth parliament in all the high as well as higher secondary schools from 2022-23 at Rs 2.2 lakh was passed. It is noteworthy that under youth parliament the students would recreate parliamentary proceedings including parliamentary practices and assigning ministries and topics for debate, holding question hour and considering youth parliament sessions. Under HMs, SCYP or staff committees for youth parliament would be formed and the teachers would be trained well.
At the council meeting, approval was given for Rs 18.62lakhs spent on organising exhibitions at the school level, assistant education officers and cluster level and GCC level.
Proposal to form gender clubs:
There must be equality between men and women and for that proposal to form gender clubs was also approved by the council. This was under changing moves and changing mind or CMCM project.
Information is that in 70 higher secondary schools 30 students each from classes 6 to 8 would be formed under a middle school teacher. Once in every 15 days, these groups would conduct group discussions or GD, debates plus various school level activities etc. To keep an eye over the functioning of gender clubs etc, a monitoring committee with 3 teachers would be formed.
For the primary schools, the council also fixed the quantum of the money of Rs 25000 and Rs 30000 for middle schools, Rs 50000 for high schools and higher secondary schools.
