Know about the incentives that have been given to the property owners in Chennai now?

It is compulsory to pay the property tax on time. The owners of the buildings who pay their property tax are being recognised by the Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC.
The news is that GCC has given around Rs 2.5crores as incentive amount to those owners who have paid their property taxes before the deadline 15th of April 2022.
In Chennai, there are nearly 12lakhs buildings and owners of 1.96 lakhs buildings have paid their property taxes for the first half of the current financial year between 1st April and 15th April 2022.
It must be remembered that a few years back GCC made many heads turn by introducing incentives of 5% or a maximum of Rs 5000 for property owners who pay the tax on time. In the last 15 days, more than Rs 116 crpres has been collected by GCC. An amount of Rs 11 crores was collected on Friday till 5pm.
After getting the opinion of the public then only new property rates would come into effect and now the owners of the buildings could pay their property tax amount as pr the old rates itself. After ratifying the Government Order, the difference in the amount would be collected.
It is learnt that the property owners who have not yet paid their property taxes till the deadline 15th April could pay their tax with a penalty of 2% of total tax amount. To ensure collection of property tax amount, GCC has kept its counters and online portal on Thursday and Friday
