Main reason for inundation revealed - Four new reservoirs in and around Chennai to be set up!!

In the year 2020, the WRD or water resources department grabbed the attention of many when it released around 20 tmc water. The department releases 38.87 tmc of water in the year 2021.
The volume of water that has been wasted is massive and now WRD has planned to set up 4 more reservoirs in and around Chennai with a total storage capacity of 8tmc to store discharge from major dams.
According to a senior officer belonging to WRD, for storing more water the department is working to set up 4 more reservoirs in places like Tiruttani and Gummidipoondi. He added that the capacity of the present reservoirs would also be increased and check dams would be constructed.
Information collected is that the new reservoirs would be able to store 8 tmc water discharged from the existing reservoirs. By this, there would be reduction in the flooding or the flooding would be avoided totally also. Now, one of the major reasons for inundation has come out and it is learnt that the reduction in the carrying capacity of the surplus water canals due to lack of proper maintenance was the reason. He concluded that if the capacity of the water canals is increased then flooding would be avoided.
