The city is left cool with breezy air with showers yesterday, but people are left troubled with increasing number of mosquitoes everywhere. Residents say, the fogging operations carried out by the city corporation officials is merely eyewash and that it is found to be of no use in controlling mosquitoes.

According to sources, complaints about mosquito menace is increasing in numbers, especially from areas like Anna Nagar, Kodambakkam, Teynampet, Royapuram, Adyar, Tondiarpet, etc.

A resident at Arumbakkam shared the difficulty in controlling mosquitoes. He says it is of no use to use repellants and mosquito coils as they don’t help in controlling them. I’m to shut all doors and windows which helps in controlling mosquitoes, but leaves my home sultry to stay in.

On enquiring this to a senior official at the corporation, he says intermittent rainfall creates the mosquito menace and it is challenging to control it too. We’ve instructed civic workers to intensify fogging operations, especially in sites where mosquitoes breed.
