A private hotel in Chennai would be full of activities from today onwards, guess why?
The reason for that is from today till 16th of August 3rd Chennai Grand Masters Chess Tournament and 2nd Chennai Challengers Chess Tournament would be held in a private hotel in Chennai. The govt of Tamil Nadu would be providing financial assistance for this chess tournament
It is worth noting that in these 2 chess tournaments just 10 leading grandmasters or GM would take part. Moreover, foreign players would also take part in the master`s category.
Important piece of information is that 10 GMs would take part in the masters category, as many as 9 GMs and one international master would take part in the challenger category played by only Indian players. The GM category would witness chess players like Karthikeyan Murali and Pranav Venkatesh.
In the Challenger category, as many as 7 chess players from TN namely Vaishali, Pranesh,Athibhan Baskaran, Harshavardhan etc would participate.
It must be recalled that in 2024 Karthikeyan Murali stole many hearts by winning Challengers and he would be taking part in the master`s category this time.
It must be taken into account that the current champion in the master`s category, Arvind Chidambaram would not be taking part in this tournament. Gukesh Dommaraju, first champion, would not be taking part in this year`s competition.
Time of the matches:
Every day from the afternoon the chess matches would begin. The chess tournament would be held in9 rounds on a round robin basis. The total prize amount is Rs 1 crore.
