New Tatkal Ticket Booking Rules from August 1: Important Update for Train Passengers

Indian Railways is introducing a new procedure for Tatkal ticket booking from August 1, aimed at making the reservation process more transparent and providing genuine passengers with a fair opportunity to secure tickets.

Under the new system, authorized railway ticket booking agents will not be allowed to book Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes after the booking window opens. This restriction is expected to reduce bulk bookings and prevent misuse during the crucial opening minutes when Tatkal tickets are in high demand.

Passengers booking Tatkal tickets online will need to log in to their IRCTC account and complete OTP verification before confirming their reservation. The additional verification step is intended to improve security and ensure that Tatkal tickets are booked by genuine passengers.

Tatkal Ticket Booking Timings

The existing booking timings remain important for passengers planning their journey. AC class Tatkal booking opens at 10:00 AM, while Non-AC class Tatkal booking opens at 11:00 AM.

Since Tatkal tickets on popular routes can sell out quickly, passengers are advised to keep their IRCTC login details, passenger information and travel details ready before the booking window opens.

The new Tatkal booking procedure is aimed at preventing irregularities, limiting unfair booking practices and improving access for ordinary passengers. By restricting agents during the initial booking period and introducing OTP-based verification, the system is expected to provide passengers with a better chance of securing high-demand Tatkal tickets.

Train passengers planning to use the Tatkal facility from August 1 should be aware of the updated rules and complete the required verification process before booking.
