Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Predicted in Over 15 Districts from June 11

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast heavy rainfall in more than 15 districts of Tamil Nadu from June 11, as conditions remain favourable for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon over the next three to four days.

According to the latest weather bulletin, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph is likely in several districts, including Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Theni, Dindigul, Cuddalore, and Mayiladuthurai.

The weather department also said that rainfall activity is expected to bring down maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal between June 11 and June 14, providing relief from the recent heatwave conditions.

For Chennai, hot and humid weather is likely to continue during the daytime. However, the city may witness light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning during the evening or night hours.

Among the rainfall records in the last 24 hours, Oothu in Tirunelveli district received 11 cm of rain, while Vint Worth Estate in the Nilgiris recorded 9 cm. Meanwhile, Chennai registered the highest maximum temperature in the state at 40.7°C on Wednesday.

Residents in the affected districts are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and take necessary precautions during periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
