Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Likely Across Several Districts

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across several parts of Tamil Nadu over the next two days due to a weak trough in the lower levels of the atmosphere over the Tamil Nadu coastal region.

Rain Forecast for Today

According to the weather department, isolated places across Tamil Nadu are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall today. Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are also expected in a few areas.

Residents are advised to exercise caution during periods of lightning and strong winds, especially while travelling or engaging in outdoor activities.

Rain Forecast for Tomorrow

On Thursday, the Western Ghats districts and North Coastal Tamil Nadu are expected to receive moderate rainfall at isolated locations, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph.

The remaining districts of Tamil Nadu are also likely to experience light to moderate rain at one or two places, with similar thunderstorm activity and strong winds.

The weather department has urged people to stay updated with official weather bulletins and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms. Motorists and commuters are advised to drive carefully during heavy rain, while fishermen and those involved in outdoor activities should monitor weather updates before venturing out.
