Chennai Metro Rail Trial Run from Porur to Vadapalani Postponed to January 11

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has postponed the trial run of Phase II trains from Porur Junction to Vadapalani to January 11. The trial was earlier scheduled to be conducted on Friday but was delayed due to ongoing overhead electrification and traction testing works.

Officials said additional time was required to complete initial electrification tests, which are continuing on Saturday. The trial run with trains is now expected to take place around 11 a.m. on Sunday, January 11, on the downward track line. Electrification work on the upward track is still pending.

The Porur–Vadapalani stretch is part of Corridor 4 (Poonamallee to Light House) under the 118.9 km Phase II project, which includes three corridors. The first operational section of Phase II will be the 15.8 km stretch from Poonamallee to Vadapalani, planned for passenger services next month.

CMRL officials indicated that a trial run on the upward track is tentatively planned for January 14, though sources suggest the electrification work may take at least a week to complete.
