RMC Chennai Predicts Heavy Rainfall Across Tamil Nadu for Next 6 Days

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has predicted widespread rainfall activity across Tamil Nadu over the next six days, with heavy to very heavy rain expected in the hill regions of Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts.

According to the weather department, a cyclonic circulation prevailing between 3.1 km and 4.5 km above sea level over coastal Karnataka and adjoining areas is influencing weather conditions across South India. The southwest monsoon has also advanced further into parts of the Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and the Bay of Bengal.

Heavy Rainfall Warning

On June 5, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in the hill areas of Nilgiris and Coimbatore. Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is also expected in the hill regions of Tenkasi and Tirunelveli, as well as Theni, Dindigul, Tiruppur, and Kanniyakumari districts.

From June 6 to June 8, the hill regions of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, Tiruppur, and Kanniyakumari are expected to continue receiving heavy rainfall. Several interior districts including Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Vellore, and Ranipet may also experience thunderstorms and heavy showers.

On June 9 and 10, heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, Kanniyakumari, Tenkasi, and Tirunelveli districts. The weather department has also forecast isolated heavy rain in the Nilgiris and Tirunelveli hill regions on June 11.

Chennai Weather Forecast

For Chennai and its suburbs, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in some areas. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 39°C to 40°C, while the minimum temperature may hover between 30°C and 31°C.

Fishermen Warning

The weather department has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea from June 5 to June 9. Strong winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are expected over the Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, and adjoining Kanyakumari sea areas.

Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable and hilly regions to stay alert and follow official weather advisories during the forecast period.
