Sholinganallur Pipeline Work: Metro Water Supply Affected in Zones 13, 14

The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has announced that water supply will be affected in parts of Zones 13 and 14 from September 20 to 29, 2026, due to the realignment of a major drinking water pipeline in Sholinganallur.

According to CMWSSB, the pipeline work is being carried out on TNHB-A Main Road in Ward 199, Sholinganallur, to facilitate the Greater Chennai Corporation`s stormwater drain works.

1,400-mm Pipeline to Be Realigned

As part of the project, the 1,400-mm diameter main pipeline supplying water from the 150 MLD desalination plant will be realigned. Water transmission from the desalination plant will be stopped temporarily during the work, affecting supply in several areas.

In Zone 13, water supply will be affected in parts of:

- Adyar
- Velachery

In Zone 14, the affected areas include:

- Perungudi
- Ullagaram
- Puzhuthivakkam
- Madipakkam
- Pallikaranai
- Jalladampettai

Alternative Water Supply Arrangements

CMWSSB said alternative water supply will be provided to the affected areas from the 530 MLD Chembarambakkam Water Treatment Plant.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to store sufficient water in advance for the period of the pipeline work.

In case of an emergency, residents can register through the CMWSSB website to receive water tankers under the ‘Dial for Water’ service.

In areas without drinking water connections and locations experiencing low water pressure, tanker supply to static tanks and street taps will continue without disruption.
