High-Speed Trials for MRTS & Metro Corridors This Week

High-speed safety trials will be conducted this week on two key rail corridors in the city. The Velachery–St Thomas Mount stretch of the Chennai MRTS will undergo trials on February 24, followed by similar tests on the Porur–Vadapalani Metro corridor on February 25.
Two 10-coach freight trains have already run on the MRTS line to assess track strength and structural stability. The Commissioner of Railway Safety will inspect tracks, signalling systems and stations before granting mandatory clearance.
Passenger services on both stretches will begin only after safety certification and audit approval, marking a significant step toward improving connectivity across Chennai.
