Bribes.fyi Goes Viral With Thousands of Bribery Reports Across India

A new website, Bribes.fyi, is gaining attention in India for allowing people to anonymously report alleged bribe demands from government officials.

Created by Aryan Nishad, a BTech student, the crowdsourced platform had recorded 3,713 reports across India as of August 18.

How Does Bribes.fyi Work?

Users can report an alleged bribe by selecting the department, entering the amount and describing what happened. They can also state whether they paid the bribe or refused to pay.

The website says no account or name is required, and a report can be filed anonymously in less than 60 seconds.

Reports are organised by department and city. The platform lists departments such as Police, RTO, Passport Office, Revenue and Land Records, Municipal Corporation, GST and Electricity.

Karnataka Has the Most Reports

According to the website, Karnataka recorded the highest number of reports with 690, followed by Maharashtra with 572, Uttar Pradesh with 437 and Delhi with 258.

The Police Department had the highest number of reports, followed by the RTO, Passport Office, Revenue/Land Department and municipal corporations.

The website also stated that 39% of people who reported incidents said they refused to pay the alleged bribe.

Website Temporarily Pauses Reports

After receiving significant public attention, Bribes.fyi temporarily paused new submissions and support.

The team said it is reviewing its legal and financial infrastructure to ensure the platform can operate sustainably.

Manish Sahani, who is helping with the platform`s product and strategy, said on LinkedIn that the website received more than 5 million requests and around 200,000 new users within 48 hours.

The platform has also invited lawyers and chartered accountants with Indian technology experience to help strengthen its operations.

While the website has received praise online, some users have raised questions about how submitted reports are verified.
