Traffic Flow Changes at Gandhi Mandapam Junction: New Trial Measures from May 21
The Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) has announced trial traffic modifications at the Gandhi Mandapam junction on Sardar Patel Road to ease congestion. The changes will take effect from May 21, 2025 (Wednesday).
Key Modifications:
1. Mandatory Flyover Use: All vehicles, including MTC buses traveling from Raj Bhavan towards Madhya Kailash, must use the Gandhi Mandapam (IIT) flyover.
2. Left-Turn Only on Service Road: Vehicles entering the Gandhi Mandapam service road must take a compulsory left turn at the junction and cannot proceed straight toward Madhya Kailash.
3. Relocated Bus Stop: The CLRI bus stop has been shifted slightly ahead toward Adyar to accommodate these changes.
The trial aims to reduce bottlenecks at the busy junction, which often faces heavy traffic during peak hours. Public cooperation is urged to ensure smooth implementation.
Note: Further adjustments will be made based on trial outcomes. Commuters are advised to plan routes accordingly.
