Tamil Nadu to Receive Heavy Rain for Two Days: Weather Department Forecast

The Tamil Nadu Weather Department has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of the state for the next two days. According to the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre, a weak trough in the lower atmospheric levels continues along the Tamil Nadu coastal areas, influencing weather conditions across the state.

The weather system is expected to bring thunderstorms, lightning, moderate rain and strong gusty winds to several districts.

Heavy Rain Forecast for Tamil Nadu

Today, moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds is likely at isolated places in the Western Ghats districts, Madurai, Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga.

Light rain accompanied by thunderstorms is also expected at isolated places across other parts of Tamil Nadu, as well as in Puducherry and Karaikal.

Heavy Rain in Chengalpattu and Villupuram

On August 18, isolated places in Chengalpattu and Villupuram districts are likely to receive heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.

Moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds is also expected in parts of the Western Ghats districts and north coastal Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal.

Other parts of Tamil Nadu may receive light rain with thunderstorms at isolated locations.

Temperature to Remain Above Normal

The weather department has stated that there is unlikely to be any significant change in the maximum temperature across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

In north interior Tamil Nadu, maximum temperatures may remain 2 to 3°C above normal at some places. Temperatures in the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are expected to remain close to normal.

In Chennai and its suburbs, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy today. Residents should remain alert to changing weather conditions and follow official weather updates, particularly during periods of thunderstorms and strong winds.
