Chennai Property Tax: Special Counters to Open on Weekends Ahead of September 30 Deadline

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced special property tax collection counters at its zonal offices and the Revenue Department at Ripon Buildings on selected weekends in September 2026.

The special counters will remain open on September 19, 20, 26 and 27 to help property owners and commercial establishments clear their pending tax dues before the deadline.

GCC Property Tax Payment Deadline

The GCC has asked property owners to pay their outstanding property tax dues on or before September 30, 2026. Taxpayers who fail to clear their dues after the deadline will be liable to pay simple interest as applicable under Rule 268(3) of the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Rules, 2023.

Taxes and Fees Accepted at Special Counters

The weekend counters will accept payments for:

- Property tax
- Professional tax
- Company tax
- Various non-tax fees

The initiative is expected to make it easier for residents and businesses who may not be able to visit GCC offices on regular working days.

Where Can Chennai Residents Pay Property Tax?

Taxpayers can visit their respective GCC zonal offices or the Revenue Department at Ripon Buildings during the special weekend counter dates to make their payments and settle pending dues.

For assistance and further information, residents can contact the GCC helpline at 044-25619305.
