Chennai Traffic Diversions Announced in Adyar from Today for Metro Rail Work

The Greater Chennai Traffic Police has announced traffic diversions in Adyar from Saturday, June 27, to facilitate ongoing Chennai Metro Rail construction on L.B. Road. Motorists are advised to follow the revised routes to ensure smooth traffic flow and avoid congestion.

The traffic changes come as Metro Rail construction work begins on the stretch between the Indian Oil Petrol Bunk Signal Junction and the L.B. Road–M.G. Road Junction, which will remain closed during the work.

Revised Traffic Arrangements

- Buses and heavy vehicles travelling from Thiruvanmiyur towards Thiru Vi Ka Bridge will be diverted via M.G. Road, Shastri Nagar 1st Main Road, and Shastri Nagar 1st Avenue before rejoining L.B. Road.

- Vehicles from Besant Nagar via 7th Avenue should use Mahatma Gandhi Road, then proceed through Shastri Nagar 1st Main Road and Shastri Nagar 1st Avenue to reach L.B. Road.

- Vehicles travelling from L.B. Road towards Thiruvanmiyur will be diverted through Shastri Nagar 1st Avenue, 11th Cross Street, 8th Cross Street, and 10th Cross Street before joining M.G. Road.

- Light motor vehicles travelling from Thiruvanmiyur towards Thiru Vi Ka Bridge can use Indira Nagar 2nd Avenue and Indira Nagar 1st Avenue to reach the Indian Oil Petrol Bunk Signal on L.B. Road.

One-Way and Two-Way Changes

To improve traffic movement during the construction period:

- Selected roads in Shastri Nagar will temporarily function as two-way roads.

- Shastri Nagar 1st Main Road towards Thiru Vi Ka Bridge will continue as a one-way road.

- 11th Cross Street towards Thiruvanmiyur will also remain one-way.

Heavy Vehicle Restriction

The Traffic Police have announced that heavy vehicles will not be allowed on Indira Nagar 2nd Avenue during the diversion period.

Motorists are advised to follow the diversion signs and traffic police instructions while travelling through the Adyar area until the Metro Rail construction work is completed.
