Independence Day 2026: 1.20 Lakh Police Personnel Deployed Across Tamil Nadu

Ahead of Independence Day on August 15, 2026, security has been strengthened across Tamil Nadu, with around 1.20 lakh police personnel deployed across the state.

The Independence Day celebrations are being held under heightened security arrangements. The Tamil Nadu Police Department has increased surveillance and security measures at important locations, including railway stations, airports, markets, temples, churches, bus terminals, schools and commercial areas.

Special security checks are being carried out using metal detectors, while police personnel have been deployed at key public places. Security has also been intensified at railway stations across the state, with additional surveillance arrangements in place. Police teams are conducting checks to ensure the safety of passengers and the public.

1.20 Lakh Police Personnel on Security Duty

Tamil Nadu has increased police deployment across the state as part of the Independence Day security arrangements. Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) M. K. Sudhakar has reportedly directed officials to strengthen security and surveillance measures across the state.

The city has witnessed increased surveillance at major roads, important government buildings and public places. Police personnel have also been deployed at key locations to monitor movements and maintain public safety.

Special attention is being given to important locations and crowded areas in Chennai. Security checks are being conducted at railway stations, commercial areas and other important public places.

Special Security Arrangements in Chennai

The main Independence Day celebrations in Chennai are scheduled to take place along Rajaji Salai near Fort St. George, where the Chief Minister will participate in the official celebrations and hoist the national flag.

Security arrangements have been strengthened along Rajaji Salai and surrounding areas. Police personnel have been deployed at important points, while surveillance and checking measures have also been increased.

The route and surrounding areas are being closely monitored to ensure the smooth conduct of the Independence Day celebrations.
