Suburban Train Services to Return to Normal
With the reopening, regular EMU train services on key routes will resume smoothly, including:
- Chennai Beach - Tambaram
- Chengalpattu line
- Kancheepuram section
Over the past few weeks, commuters experienced delays, reduced train frequency, and frequent platform changes. The restoration of these platforms is expected to bring operations back to their usual schedule and improve overall travel convenience.
Why the Platforms Were Closed
Platforms 10 and 11 were temporarily shut as part of a 45-day traffic block from February 20 to April 5, 2026, to carry out major redevelopment works at the station.
Key Infrastructure Upgrades
As part of the modernization project, several important works have been completed:
- Foundation work for new foot overbridges
- Construction of a 72-metre-wide departure concourse
- Groundwork for installing a large roof structure
These developments are part of a broader plan to upgrade Chennai Egmore into a more modern, passenger-friendly railway hub.
