Chennai Metro Expands Horizons: New Routes Under Consideration
The Chennai Metro Railway Management is gearing up to extend its services to new areas, catering to the growing number of passengers. Plans are underway to connect Sirucheri-Klambakkam, Koyambedu-Aavadi, and more as part of the Metro Rail Second Phase Project, covering an ambitious 119 kilometers.

The estimated cost for these expansion works is approximately Rs. 69,180 crores, with a target completion date set for 2028. The administration is actively working on the feasibility report for these new routes, with a total of 93 kilometers under consideration.

The proposed extensions include a 50-kilometer connection to Poontamalli-Barandur, a 17-kilometer link to Koyambedu-Aavadi, and a 26-kilometer stretch from Sirucheri to Klambakkam. While there may be some delays in the feasibility study for the Poontamalli-Paranthur track, the administration aims to submit the report for Sirucheri-Klambakkam and Koyambedu-Aavadi routes to the Tamil Nadu government within the next two weeks.
