Tamil Nadu to Operate 4,090 Special Buses This Weekend

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations will operate 4,090 special buses across the State from August 27 to 30, 2026, to manage the expected passenger rush during the weekend holidays and the auspicious Pournami day.

According to the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC), additional services will be operated from major bus terminals, including Kilambakkam, Koyambedu and Madhavaram, to several destinations across Tamil Nadu and neighbouring states.

From Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus, Kilambakkam, special buses will operate to destinations including Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchy, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode and Tirupur.

A total of 380 Pournami special buses will operate on August 27, followed by 1,140 buses on August 28 and 1,020 buses on August 29.

Special services will also operate from CMBT, Koyambedu, to Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Hosur and Bengaluru. From Madhavaram, buses will operate to Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchy, Kumbakonam, Vellore, Hosur and Puducherry.

To help passengers returning to Chennai and Bengaluru, an additional 690 special buses will operate from various parts of Tamil Nadu on August 30.

Advance bookings have already reached 39,131 passengers for the four-day period, and the number is expected to increase further.
