37,943 Engineering Seats Remain Vacant in Tamil Nadu After Third Round of Counselling

As many as 37,943 engineering seats remain vacant in Tamil Nadu after the third round of TNEA counselling, while 1,57,570 seats have been filled so far.

This year, 418 engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu have been approved for 2,53,806 seats. Of these, 1,95,513 seats are being filled through the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) counselling process.

In the third round, 68,640 students received tentative seat allotments, including 66,159 students under the academic stream and 2,481 government school students under the 7.5% quota.

Students who received allotments must confirm their seats online by 5 pm on Saturday. Those who fail to confirm within the deadline could lose their allotted seats.

The high number of vacant seats has raised concerns about student demand across several engineering colleges. 24 colleges recorded zero admissions, while another 64 colleges admitted fewer than 10 students.

Meanwhile, TNEA supplementary counselling registration has started. Students who passed Class 12 through supplementary exams and those who missed regular counselling can apply until August 31.

The supplementary counselling round is expected to give more students an opportunity to secure engineering seats in Tamil Nadu.
