Madhya Kailash Temple, popularly known as Nadukkayilai, is one of the most prominent Hindu temples in Chennai. Located at the junction of Sardar Patel Road and Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR) in Adyar, the temple is dedicated to Sri Venkata Ananda Vinayakar, a revered form of Lord Ganesha. History of Madhya Kailash Temple

Madhya Kailash Temple was established during the 1970s with the vision of creating a spiritual centre where devotees could worship multiple Hindu deities under one roof. The temple derives its name from the belief that it is spiritually situated between Mount Kailash, the sacred abode of Lord Shiva in the north, and Rameswaram, one of Hinduism`s holiest pilgrimage destinations in the south. Because of this symbolic location, the temple came to be known as "Madhya Kailash", meaning "Middle Kailash."

Over the years, the temple has become one of Chennai`s most respected religious landmarks. Devotees visit the temple not only for Lord Vinayakar`s blessings but also to participate in the unique Pithru Pooja. During this ritual, offerings are first made to Sri Ananda Vinayakar and are then symbolically offered to Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, Surya Bhagavan, and finally to cows as part of the ancestral worship ceremony. It is believed that performing this sacred ritual brings peace to departed souls while blessing families with prosperity, harmony, and good health.

Another remarkable feature of the temple is the rare Adyantha Prabhu idol, where the right half represents Lord Ganesha and the left half represents Lord Hanuman. This unique deity is rarely found in any other temple and symbolizes the perfect union of intelligence, devotion, courage, and humility. During Vinayaka Chaturthi, the temple celebrates grand festivities, and devotees believe that the rays of the rising sun fall directly on the presiding deity, making the occasion highly auspicious.

Note: On Tuesdays and Fridays, special poojas are conducted, and devotees are advised to visit early as the temple receives a large number of visitors. Timings may vary slightly during major festivals and special occasions.

Madhya Kailash Temple is located in Adyar, Chennai, opposite the Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) and close to IIT Madras. Owing to its prime location, the temple is well connected by road, rail, metro, and air, making it easily accessible from all parts of Chennai.

By Air: The nearest airport is Chennai International Airport, located approximately 12 km from the temple. Visitors can hire taxis, app-based cabs, or use metro and city bus services to reach the temple.

By Train: The nearest suburban railway station is Kasturba Nagar Railway Station, situated around 2 km away. Chennai Central and Chennai Egmore railway stations are also well connected by local trains, buses, and taxis.

By Metro: The nearest Chennai Metro stations are Little Mount and Guindy. From there, visitors can reach the temple by taxi, auto-rickshaw, or public buses.

By Bus: Several Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses operate through Sardar Patel Road, Adyar, and Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR), providing convenient access to the temple from different parts of Chennai.

By Road: The temple can be easily reached by private vehicles, taxis, auto-rickshaws, and app-based cab services. It is situated at one of Chennai`s major road junctions and can be reached within 30 to 40 minutes from the city centre, depending on traffic conditions.
