Prime Minister Modi to Inaugurate Redeveloped Chennai Park Railway Station Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the redeveloped Chennai Park Railway Station today through video conferencing as part of the nationwide Amrit Station Scheme, which aims to modernise railway stations across India.

The station has been redeveloped at a cost of ₹14.79 crore and is among 75 redeveloped Amrit Stations being inaugurated across the country. The initiative is part of the broader redevelopment of 261 railway stations under the Amrit Station Scheme.

One of Chennai`s oldest suburban railway stations, Chennai Park Railway Station is located on the Chennai Beach–Chengalpattu suburban corridor and serves as a major transit hub, handling around 198 suburban train services and approximately 29,000 passengers every day.

The redevelopment includes a new entrance canopy, landmark tower, modern booking office, improved waiting areas, resurfaced platforms, additional platform shelters, upgraded roofing, and enhanced passenger signage to improve the overall travel experience.

To enhance accessibility and commuter convenience, the station now features two new lifts for the foot overbridge, dedicated pedestrian walkways connecting to the MRTS station, and seamless access to the Chennai Metro. The upgraded infrastructure has been designed to provide barrier-free travel, benefiting senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other passengers.

The revamped station is expected to significantly improve passenger comfort, safety, and multi-modal connectivity, further strengthening Chennai`s suburban railway network.
