Audi Q9 Breaks Cover as New Flagship SUV; Petrol Version Likely for India

Audi has unveiled the all-new Q9, its largest and most luxurious SUV to date. Positioned above the Q7 and Q8 in the company’s global line-up, the Q9 marks Audi’s entry into the full-size luxury SUV segment.

Once launched in India, it will compete with models such as the BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and Range Rover.

Measuring more than 5.3 metres in length, the Audi Q9 has been developed with a strong focus on passenger space and comfort.

The SUV comes with a three-row, seven-seat layout as standard. Buyers can also opt for a six-seat configuration with two individually adjustable electric captain seats in the second row.

Key exterior and comfort features include:

- Powered doors.

- Audi’s largest panoramic sunroof.

- Adaptive air suspension.

- All-wheel steering.

- Curved OLED tail lamps.

- Three-row seating.

The powered doors and large panoramic roof further enhance the Q9’s premium and business-class character.

Technology-Focused Interior

Inside, the Audi Q9 features a triple-screen dashboard layout and an infotainment system based on Android Automotive.

The cabin also offers connected-car technology, premium materials, and an extensive range of advanced driver-assistance systems. Its spacious interior has been designed to provide a comfortable experience during long-distance journeys.

Global Powertrain Details

In international markets, the Q9 will initially be offered with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine supported by a mild-hybrid system.

The engine produces 299 PS and 630 Nm of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system sends power to all four wheels.

Petrol Engine Expected for India

The India-spec Audi Q9 is expected to be offered with a petrol engine, in line with Audi’s existing powertrain strategy for the Indian luxury-car market.

Audi has not yet revealed the exact petrol engine, specifications, or official India launch date.

CBU Import Likely Initially

Although Audi locally assembles the Q7 in India, the Q9 is expected to arrive initially through the Completely Built Unit (CBU) import route.

Depending on market demamand, the company may later consider Completely Knocked Down (CKD) assembly in India.

The Audi Q9 is expected to be priced between ₹1.25 crore and ₹1.40 crore, placing it firmly in the country’s premium full-size luxury SUV segment.
