Postal voting for senior citizens and differently-abled voters has commenced in Chennai, enabling eligible individuals to cast their votes from their residences.

The initiative covers voters aged 85 years and above and persons with disabilities across 16 constituencies, with over 8,000 beneficiaries expected to participate in the process.

Election officials have begun visiting homes and care centres to collect votes through postal ballots. In Chetpet, under the Egmore Assembly Constituency, votes were collected from elderly residents at an old age home near MCC School.

According to election officer Rajarajan, special arrangements have been made for voters who are unable to visit polling stations. Officials verify documents, apply indelible ink, and assist voters in casting their votes using ballot papers provided by the Election Commission of India.

Once the vote is cast, it is securely placed in a postal ballot box and later submitted to election authorities.

In Egmore constituency alone, around 344 voters are eligible for postal voting. Four teams have been deployed, with each team collecting approximately 40 votes per day over a period of three days.

Officials stated that the initiative ensures inclusive participation in the democratic process, allowing elderly and differently-abled citizens to exercise their voting rights with ease.

Voter Anthony Sami, who cast his vote, urged everyone to fulfill their democratic duty and participate in the elections.
