Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay presented ₹80 lakh in cash incentives to Commonwealth Games medal winners Raja Muthupandi, Praveen Chithravel, and Selva Priya in recognition of their outstanding achievements in international sports.

The State government honoured the athletes for bringing pride to Tamil Nadu through their medal-winning performances at the Commonwealth Games.

Tamil Nadu Continues to Support Athletes

The Tamil Nadu government has been actively promoting sports by providing athletes with quality training, modern sports infrastructure, and financial assistance. These initiatives aim to encourage sportspersons from the State to excel in national and international competitions.

The government has consistently introduced welfare measures, including cash rewards and improved sporting facilities, to motivate athletes and strengthen Tamil Nadu`s sporting ecosystem.

Medal Winners Receive Cash Rewards

During the felicitation ceremony, the Chief Minister presented cash incentives to the medal winners based on their achievements at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland.

The awards included:

- Raja Muthupandi (Thoothukudi district), who won the silver medal in the Men`s 65 kg Weightlifting event, received ₹30 lakh.

- Praveen Chithravel (Tiruvarur district), who secured the silver medal in the Triple Jump, was awarded ₹30 lakh. The cheque was received by his father, N. Chithravel, on his behalf.

- Selva Priya, a bronze medalist and former hostel student of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) from Thanjavur district, received a ₹20 lakh cash incentive.

The total cash reward distributed to the three athletes amounted to ₹80 lakh.

Government Reaffirms Commitment to Sports Development

The event highlighted the Tamil Nadu government`s continued commitment to nurturing sporting talent through financial support, advanced coaching, and world-class sports infrastructure. The administration reiterated its focus on helping athletes achieve success at prestigious international sporting events.

The felicitation ceremony was attended by Sports Development Minister Aadhi Arjuna, Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department Secretary Sandeep Nanduri, senior government officials, sports administrators, and distinguished guests.

The recognition of Raja Muthupandi, Praveen Chithravel, and Selva Priya reflects Tamil Nadu`s ongoing efforts to encourage excellence in sports and inspire the next generation of athletes to compete successfully on the global stage.
