The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has announced that a low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal, adjoining the north Odisha and West Bengal coast. The weather system is expected to bring thunderstorms, gusty winds, and widespread rainfall across several parts of Tamil Nadu over the coming days.

According to the latest forecast, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in the Coimbatore hill areas, Nilgiris, and Theni districts on July 3, while Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Kanniyakumari districts are expected to receive heavy rain on July 4.

Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) is likely over the Western Ghats districts. Light to moderate rain is also expected at isolated places across the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

July 3

Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in:

- Coimbatore hill areas

- Nilgiris

- Theni

Other Western Ghats districts and parts of North Tamil Nadu may receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

July 4

Heavy rainfall is forecast at isolated places in:

- Coimbatore

- Nilgiris

- Kanniyakumari

Moderate rain with thunderstorms is also expected in other Western Ghats districts, while the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal may receive light to moderate showers.

Chennai Weather Forecast

Chennai and its surrounding suburbs are expected to experience partly cloudy skies on July 2 and July 3. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in some parts of the city during the evening or night.

Minimum Temperature: 29–30°C

Temperature Outlook

The weather department has stated that maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are expected to remain close to normal between July 2 and July 6, with no significant change anticipated.

Fishermen Warning

Fishermen have been advised to exercise caution due to strong winds over the sea.

July 2: Winds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are likely over the Kumari Sea.

July 5: Winds of 45–55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, are expected over the South Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, and adjoining Kumari Sea.

Fishermen are advised to monitor official weather updates and avoid venturing into the sea during the warning period.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has urged residents in the affected districts to remain alert and follow official advisories, as the low-pressure system may bring localized heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds over the next few days.
