Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections: Online Nomination Facility Introduced Through Suvidha 2.0 App

Ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced a new online nomination and permission system through the Suvidha 2.0 application. The digital platform allows candidates and political parties to apply for various election-related permissions quickly and transparently.

The initiative is expected to simplify the process of obtaining approvals for election activities such as public meetings, rallies, and setting up temporary party offices.

Online Applications Through Suvidha Portal

Candidates can apply for permissions through the official Suvidha portal: https://suvidha.eci.gov.in

Through this portal or the Suvidha 2.0 mobile app, candidates can request approval for:

Public meetings and campaign rallies

- Election processions

- Temporary party offices

- Nomination-related permissions

Applicants must submit their request at least 48 hours before the event to receive approval.

Election Review Meeting in Chennai

A consultation meeting regarding the Model Code of Conduct and election arrangements was held on March 16 at the Ripon Building in Chennai.

The meeting was chaired by Kumaragurubaran, who is also the Chennai District Election Officer. Representatives from all recognized political parties attended the meeting.

Election Preparations in Chennai

Officials announced that Chennai has 16 Assembly constituencies, and 375 zonal teams consisting of police personnel and election officials have been formed to manage election duties.

These teams will handle key responsibilities such as:

- Preparing Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs)

- Transporting EVMs to polling stations

- Safely transferring machines to counting centers after voting

Polling Staff and Training

Around 16,500 polling officers will be appointed in Chennai for the election process. These officials will receive constituency-wise training to ensure smooth and transparent voting procedures.

Candidate Election Expenditure Limit

The maximum expenditure limit for a candidate in one Assembly constituency is ₹40 lakh.

The Election Commission has also issued a standard rate c chart to political parties. Based on this chart, candidates’ campaign expenditures will be calculated and monitored to ensure compliance with election spending rules.

The Suvidha portal can be used by:

- Recognized political party officials

- Candidates contesting the election

- Authorized agents of candidates
