Veteran Tamil filmmaker Bharathiraja passed away at the age of 84 after battling health issues. The legendary director, known for transforming Tamil cinema with realistic village-based stories, was undergoing treatment at his Chennai residence.
Born in Theni, Bharathiraja made his debut with the iconic 16 Vayathinile and went on to direct 44 films during his illustrious career. He was also a recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award.
His demise is a huge loss to the Tamil film industry, with tributes pouring in from celebrities, politicians, and fans across the country.
