Several parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to receive moderate rainfall today (September 11), with rain forecast in 16 districts, according to the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre. Some areas may also experience thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.

According to the weather department, a trough extending from South Interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar through Tamil Nadu is prevailing at around 0.9 km above mean sea level. This weather system is likely to bring rainfall to several parts of the state.

16 Districts Likely to Receive Rain Today

Moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds is likely at isolated places in the Western Ghats districts.

Moderate rainfall is also expected at isolated places in Cuddalore, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Namakkal, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Karur, Kallakurichi, Tiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai districts.

Puducherry and Karaikal may also receive moderate rainfall at isolated places.

Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast for September 12 and 13

On September 12 and 13, moderate rainfall is likely in Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar and Sivaganga districts.

Isolated areas in the south coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, remaining Western Ghats districts, Tiruchirappalli, Namakkal and Salem may also experience moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.

Rain Forecast for September 14

On September 14, moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places in the Western Ghats districts, along with Dharmapuri, Tiruvannamalai, Namakkal, Erode, Salem, Ariyalur, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts.

Temperature Outlook in Tamil Nadu

There is no significant change expected in the maximum temperature over interior Tamil Nadu from today until September 15. However, temperatures may rise slightly during this period.

In coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected.

Chennai Weather Today

Chennai is likely to remain partly cloudy today. A few parts of the city may receive moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning during the evening or night.

The maximum temperature in Chennai is expected to remain around 34–35°C, while the minimum temperature may be around 25–26°C, according to the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre.
